Instructions and Help about See pub 519 irs

Hi everyone, this is James Braithwaite, a physiotherapist specializing in bracelet therapy. Today, we're going to talk about femoral acetabular impingement syndrome, which is surprisingly common if you have hip restrictions. Research suggests that around 20% of people with limited hip range of motion have this condition, so it's definitely something to be aware of. Femoral acetabular impingement syndrome involves a structural change in the hip, specifically a build-up of bone on either the ball or socket. This causes the two components to abut each other, resulting in restricted range of motion. Some common restricted movements include flexion (such as deep squatting or raising the knee high) and internal rotation and adduction of the hip (like dropping the knee in). So, what can you do about it? The first step is activity modification. Here are a couple of simple adjustments you can make. When squatting in the gym, don't go as deep and keep your knees wide instead of letting them drop inward. This helps avoid excessive hip flexion angles. When walking, take smaller steps, reducing your normal step length by about 25%. This still allows for a normal walking gait while minimizing hip flexion. Another key adjustment is to avoid walking with your feet in a straight line, like a model. Instead, maintain some space between your feet as you take steps. It may not look as stylish, but it helps prevent aggravation of femoral acetabular impingement. Lastly, crossing your legs is a definite no-no if you're dealing with this condition. It can worsen the pain and discomfort. Remember to be mindful of your positioning and make adjustments as needed to alleviate symptoms. Overall, femoral acetabular impingement syndrome is a common condition, but with some activity modifications, you can manage the symptoms and move beautifully.
